Oak House is so named because of the large Oak tree just outside the property's front door. This Oak tree is officially registered as being the largest and second oldest in all of Ireland. It has been estimated as being over 600 years old and even after pruning is well over 150 feet in height, nearly 100 feet in spread and the main trunk at ground level is 32 feet in circumference giving it a diameter of just over 10 feet!

This photograph shows the garden in late afternoon. As it is south facing it benefits from sunshine through most of the day.
Through the gate at the end of the garden access is available to the private beach area across Oak House's meadowland.
Oak House's main garden contains two water features - a small fountain and a pond with a stream and waterfall, seating is provided in both areas. Many and varied plants, shrubs and trees have paths meandering in and around them, giving guests a varied view.
Swings, see-saws and a play-house are provided for children's enjoyment, whilst an arbour offers seating for parents to keep an eye on children as they play.
At night the gardens are lit by small lamps scattered along the edges of the paths giving a gently illuminated walk-way, thus creating a relaxed and tranquil environment.
