Directions:
Being on the west coast of Lough Derg, there are few ways of arriving at Mountshannon. As there is only one road through Mountshannon and only one bridge across Lough Derg it means that if you are travelling from anywhere East of Lough Derg you only have the options of going around the north or south edges of Lough Derg or else across the bridge between Balina and Killaloe.
The recommended routes are as follows (Click On The Most Appropriate):-
From The East - Dublin Port
From The East - Dún Laoghaire Ferry Port
From The N7 To Mountshannon From The East
From The South-East - Rosslare Harbour
From The South - Cork Harbour
From The South-West - Kerry Airport
From The West-South-West - Shannon Airport
From The West - Galway City
From The North-West - Knock Airport
From The North - Longford
From The North-East - Dundalk(Dun Dealgan)
From The East (Dublin Port):
As you leave the ship you join the one way system which leads you out of the port via "Terminal Road" and "Tolka Quay Road" until (after 1.9 miles) you come to the junction with the "R131 - East Wall Road" where you turn LEFT.
Continue down "East Wall Road" for 0.4 miles and take the second RIGHT onto the "R801 - North Wall Quay".
After 1 mile turn left into the one way system and cross the River Liffey.
Turn RIGHT onto "R105 - George's Quay" for 1.6 miles as it leads you along "Burgh Quay" which then becomes "N4 - Aston Quay", "Wellington Quay", "Essex Quay", "Wood Quay", "Merchants Quay", "Ushers Quay" then on into "Ushers Island" and then "Victoria Quay".
At the end of "Victoria Quay" bear left onto "N4 - St John's Road West" and follow this for 0.8 miles.
Keep left and join "R111" then IMMEDIATELY turn RIGHT onto "Inchicore Road" for 3 miles as it becomes the "R110 - Grattan Crescent" then "Tyrconnell Road" and finally "Naas Road" at the end of which you arrive at a large traffic island.
Continue straight across onto the "N7". (From here follow directions "N7 to Mountshannon")
From The East (Dun Laoghaire):
As you leave the Ferry you join the one way system which leads you round to the RIGHT onto "N31 - Harbour Road" and then left across the bridge over the railway line.
Turn RIGHT onto the "N31 - Crofton Road".
Keep left onto the "R119 - Clarence Street".
Turns RIGHT into "R119 - Cumberland Street" which then leads into "Monkstown Road".
At the end of "Monkstown Road", turn left onto "R113 - Stradbrook Road" and after just 0.1 miles turn RIGHT onto "R113 - Newtownpark Avenue" for 1.3 miles.
Turn RIGHT onto "N11 - Stillorgan Road" for 0.9 miles then left onto "Kilmacud Road Lower" for 1.1 miles.
Keep straight onto "Drummartin Road" then bear left into "Eden Park Road" and then into Knocknashee.
Turn RIGHT into "Kilmacud Road Upper" for 0.5 miles.
Turn left onto "R117 - Sandyford Road" for 0.3 miles then RIGHT onto "R829 - Wyckham Way" for 0.7 miles.
At the island continue straight over onto "R829 - Ballinteer Road" for 0.4 miles.
At the island continue straight over onto "R829 - Ballinteer Road".
At the next island turn RIGHT onto "M50" which you follow for 7 miles to junction 9.
Keep left and take the exit ramp up to the island.
Turn left onto the "N7". (From here follow directions "N7 to Mountshannon")
N7 to Mountshannon:
The "N7" from Dublin down to "Limerick" is one of the many sections of Ireland's roads that are under continuous and significant development.
Large areas of this roadway are being bypassed with the new "M7" motorway so as to skirt the many towns and villages and thus improve journeys across Ireland.
Where the "M7" is available use it, otherwise use the "N7" as far as "Nenagh" and then join the "N7".
Just before "Birdhill" turn RIGHT onto the "R496" to "Ballina" and "Killaloe".
On entering "Ballina" turn LEFT and cross the bridge to "Killaloe".
At the other side of the bridge turn RIGHT onto the "R463" to "Ogonelloe".
Continue onto "Tuamgraney" and then turn RIGHT to "Scarriff".
As you pass the sign welcoming you to "Scarriff" you will pass across the bridge over the River Shannon.
Turn RIGHT to "Mountshannon".
Continue following the "352" into "Mountshannon".
On entering Mountshannon you will see the Catholic church on your RIGHT.
Continue along the main road through Mountshannon and up the hill.
At the top of the hill you will notice the "Mountshannon Hotel" on the right and "Mountshannon Harbour" signposted to the right.
Continue past these and down the hill.
Oak House is then on the right just before the bend at the bottom of the hill.
From The South-East (Rosslare Harbour):
Having left the Ferry proceed down the one way system to the island.
Turn RIGHT onto the "N25".
After 9.2 miles turn LEFT at the island and continue following the "N25".
After approx 3.5 miles take the SECOND exit from the island onto the "N11".
After 15 miles bear LEFT onto the "N80".
After 28.5 miles turn LEFT at the island onto the "N9".
At the next island (0.1 miles) turn RIGHT onto the "N80".
After 23.4 miles turn LEFT to stay on the "N80".
Continue to follow the "N80" for another half mile and then turn LEFT onto the "R445".
After approx 2 miles join "N7".(From here follow directions "N7 to Mountshannon")
From The South (Cork Harbour):
Follow the road out of the harbour and at the T junction turn right onto the "N28" to Cork.
After 7.4 miles bear LEFT onto the exit ramp and join the "N25 - South Ring Road".
After 2.5 miles turn right at the island onto the "N27 - South City Link Road".
After 1.7 miles turn right onto "N27 - Albert Street" which then bends round to the LEFT, crosses two rivers and then bear LEFT onto the "N8 - Penroses Quay".
Take the first LEFT on "Brian Boru Street" and across "Brian Boru Bridge" then turn right onto "Merchant's Quay" which leads straight onto "N20 - Lavitts Quay".
Continue to follow the "N20" towards Limerick until the "R509" to Limerick is signposted to the right.
Turn right onto the "R509" to "Limerick".
At the island turn LEFT onto the "R511 - Roxboro Road".
After 0.8 miles turn LEFT onto "N24 - Upper William Street".
Turn LEFT onto "N24 - Upper Gerald Griffin Street".
Follow "N24" into "Roches Street".
After 0.3 miles turn right onto "N20 - Henry Street" which leads into the "N7".
Turn right into "Honans Quay" then LEFT onto "N20 - Arthur's Quay" and around to the right into "Francis Street".
Follow around to the LEFT into "Rutland Street" and then bear LEFT onto "R463 - Matthew Bridge".
Keep straight on into "Bridge Street" and then continue to follow "R463" signposted "Ardnacrusha".
After "Ardnacrusha" bear LEFT onto "R465" to "Kilmore", "Broadford" and "Bodyke".
At the T junction opposite the "Cobblers Rest" in "Bodyke" turn right to "Tuamgraney" and then continue straight on towards "Scarriff".
As you pass the sign welcoming you to "Scarriff" you will pass across the bridge over the River Shannon.
Turn RIGHT to "Mountshannon".
Continue following the "R352" into "Mountshannon".
On entering Mountshannon you will see the Catholic church on your RIGHT.
Continue along the main road through Mountshannon and up the hill.
At the top of the hill you will notice the "Mountshannon Hotel" on the right and "Mountshannon Harbour" signposted to the right.
Continue past these and down the hill.
Oak House is then on the right just before the bend at the bottom of the hill.
From The South-West (Kerry Airport) :
On leaving the airport join the "N22".
After 0.2 miles join the "N23".
At "Castleisland" turn onto the "N21".
Continue following the "N21" until you reach "Limerick".
Join the "N7" and then immediately join the "R463".
After approx 3.8 miles DO NOT FOLLOW "R463" to the RIGHT, instead follow "R465" towards "Kilmore", "Broadford" and "Bodyke".
At the T junction opposite the "Cobblers Rest" in "Bodyke" turn right to "Tuamgraney" and then continue straight on towards "Scarriff".
As you pass the sign welcoming you to "Scarriff" you will pass across the bridge over the River Shannon.
Turn RIGHT to "Mountshannon".
Continue following the "R352" into "Mountshannon".
On entering Mountshannon you will see the Catholic church on your RIGHT.
Continue along the main road through Mountshannon and up the hill.
At the top of the hill you will notice the "Mountshannon Hotel" on the right and "Mountshannon Harbour" signposted to the right.
Continue past these and down the hill.
Oak House is then on the right just before the bend at the bottom of the hill.
From The West-South-West (Shannon Airport):
On leaving the airport join the "N19".
At "Hurlers Cross" join the "R471" to "Sixmilebridge".
At "Sixmilebridge" turn RIGHT onto the "R462".
After approx 9 miles turn RIGHT onto the "R352" to "Bodyke".
Pass through "Bodyke" and continue onto "Tuamgraney".
Bear LEFT to stay on the "R352" and continue onto "Scarriff".
As you pass the sign welcoming you to "Scarriff" you will pass across the bridge over the River Shannon.
Turn RIGHT to "Mountshannon".
Continue following the "R352" into "Mountshannon".
On entering Mountshannon you will see the Catholic church on your RIGHT.
Continue along the main road through Mountshannon and up the hill.
At the top of the hill you will notice the "Mountshannon Hotel" on the right and "Mountshannon Harbour" signposted to the right.
Continue past these and down the hill.
Oak House is then on the right just before the bend at the bottom of the hill.
From The West (Galway):
Join the "N6" towards Loughrea.
Turn RIGHT onto the "N18" to Gort.
After Gort turn left onto the "R461" to Drumandoora and Scarriff,
Having entered Scarriff, join the "R352" into "Mountshannon".
On entering Mountshannon you will see the Catholic church on your RIGHT.
Continue along the main road through Mountshannon and up the hill.
At the top of the hill you will notice the "Mountshannon Hotel" on the right and "Mountshannon Harbour" signposted to the right.
Continue past these and down the hill.
Oak House is then on the right just before the bend at the bottom of the hill.
From The North West (Knock International Airport):
On leaving Knock Airport join the "N17" towards Tuam and then continue on towards Galway.
At Claregalway join the "N18" to Gort.
After Gort turn left onto the "R461" to Drumandoora and Scarriff,
Having entered Scarriff, join the "R352" into "Mountshannon".
On entering Mountshannon you will see the Catholic church on your RIGHT.
Continue along the main road through Mountshannon and up the hill.
At the top of the hill you will notice the "Mountshannon Hotel" on the right and "Mountshannon Harbour" signposted to the right.
Continue past these and down the hill.
Oak House is then on the right just before the bend at the bottom of the hill.
From The North (The Longford Area):
The best route from this area is to join the "N63" towards Roscommon and then on towards Galway.
Having come to Laghtgeorge join the "N17" towards Galway.
At Claregalway join the "N18" to Gort.
After Gort turn left onto the "R461" to Drumandoora and Scarriff,
Having entered Scarriff, join the "R352" into "Mountshannon".
On entering Mountshannon you will see the Catholic church on your RIGHT.
Continue along the main road through Mountshannon and up the hill.
At the top of the hill you will notice the "Mountshannon Hotel" on the right and "Mountshannon Harbour" signposted to the right.
Continue past these and down the hill.
Oak House is then on the right just before the bend at the bottom of the hill.
From The North-East (The Dundalk Area):
The best route from this area is to join the "N52" to "Nenagh".
At "Nenagh" join the "N7" towards "Limerick".
After about 5 miles you will see the "R499" to the LEFT.
CONTINUE STRAIGHT ON PAST IT.
1.4 miles further on turn RIGHT onto the "R496" to "Ballina" and "Killaloe".
On entering "Ballina" turn LEFT and cross the bridge to "Killaloe".
At the other side of the bridge turn RIGHT onto the "R463" to "Ogonelloe".
Continue onto "Tuamgraney" and then turn RIGHT to "Scarriff".
As you pass the sign welcoming you to "Scarriff" you will pass across the bridge over the River Shannon.
Turn RIGHT to "Mountshannon".
Continue following the "352" into "Mountshannon".
On entering Mountshannon you will see the Catholic church on your RIGHT.
Continue along the main road through Mountshannon and up the hill.
At the top of the hill you will notice the "Mountshannon Hotel" on the right and "Mountshannon Harbour" signposted to the right.
Continue past these and down the hill.
